What this measures, and what it cannot

Store size is Shopify's own listing
The count is every app in Shopify’s published app sitemap, read daily. It is not our catalogue, and it is not the number of app pages that still answer — some unlisted apps keep a working page. A day whose count looked frozen is skipped, never quoted.
New apps are first appearances in that listing
An app counts as new in the week it first appears in Shopify’s listing. Apps our catalogue already knew before Shopify listed them are counted separately as returning, not as launches. Names and categories arrive with our weekly catalogue pass, so a new app can be counted before it can be named.
Category position is Shopify's order, read nightly
Every movement figure comes from the position an app holds on Shopify’s category pages, read once a night — not from a rank we compute. Only apps seen on both days of a comparison, on the same page, count; each page is compared to the shallower of the two days’ depth; and pages split into separately numbered sections are left out, because a number there does not say where on the page an app sits.
Pricing changes are what we saw change
A change is a difference in the plans an app lists, first price of the week against last, so a plan that changed and changed back does not count. It is dated when our crawl noticed it, which can trail the developer’s edit by up to a week for apps we read less often. The first time we ever read an app’s pricing is never a change.
No keyword rankings
Shopify stopped allowing its search results to be read on 6 September 2026, so nothing here says where an app ranks for a search term. Category pages are the only ranking Shopify still lets anyone read.
