Counted, not estimated. Every figure below comes from our own daily crawl of the Shopify App Store, or from Shopify’s own sitemap where the question is about the store as a whole. Free to quote with a link.
26,162 apps — that is the number of distinct app pages listed in Shopify’s own English sitemap when it was last counted on 9 September 2026. It is the only figure on this page we do not derive ourselves, because we cannot: a crawler only knows what it has reached. Anyone can re-count it from the sitemap.
Distinct app URLs in Shopify's English sitemap, counted 9 September 2026.
Listings our crawler has reached and last saw responding. Delisted and removed apps are excluded everywhere on this page.
Categories the App Store organises listings into, as published on the store itself.
So this dataset covers 94.0% of the listed store. Where a figure below is a share, it is a share of what we track — not an extrapolation to the whole store.
This is the finding that surprises people, and it is the one worth quoting: the App Store is not 24,591 competing products. It is a few thousand apps with any evidence behind them, and a long tail nobody has ever reviewed.
14,708 of 24,591 live apps have no review count on their listing at all.
Apps with a review count of one or more. Everything in the sections below is a share of these.
15.8% of all live apps clear ten reviews.
4.7% of live apps. 161 apps have 1,000 or more.
Sum of the review counts on every live listing we track.
The 100 most-reviewed apps account for 371,080 of 846,269 reviews.
Ten apps hold 127,626 reviews between them.
Put the two together and you have the shape of the market: a hundred apps hold 43.8% of every review ever written, while the app in the middle of the store has 5.
5,922 of 9,883 apps with any reviews show a perfect score — usually on very few reviews.
Half of all reviewed apps rate at or above this.
Averaged across every reviewed live app, unweighted by review count.
A star rating is close to useless for choosing between Shopify apps: when most of the store shows five stars, the rating separates almost nothing. The review count does the separating.
Please do — that is what the page is for. Quote any figure with a link back, and if you need a cut we have not published (by category, by price band, by review velocity) ask and we will run it.

Figures on this page are recomputed from the live dataset every day, so the date above is the day you read it, not the day it was written. Method questions go to the FAQ, which says where each number comes from and what we do not claim.
The State of Shopify Apps 2026 goes further than this page: review distribution by rank band, pricing, and what it costs in reviews to hold each position. It is a free 11-page PDF.
